It was fabulous to see the usual high standard of work at BCTF; this is our favourite Trade Show and pretty much on our doorstep. There was a nice mix of newcomer and established maker at BCTF this year. The calibre of stand display made the event a visual delight, as always.
There seemed to be a renewed buzz at this year’s show which was great to see. Many exhibitors we spoke to said they had been approached by both new and established venues and had gained good orders. Hopefully this is an indication of a turning tide and good things to come for the retail sector. It was a delight to hear that exhibitors were very positive and upbeat this year. It was interesting to note an obvious trend for homeware and surface pattern led products, and very textural, geographic jewellery collections.
Faye Hall was awarded the Best Newcomer award at BCTF by us. We felt she was aware of the current trends but addressed them in a very unique and exciting manner. It’s always lovely to see innovative and exciting work, very refreshing.
The terrifying ‘fast fashion’ culture is something Faye aims to be the opposite of, by making bold, colourful accessories that will last a lifetime, opposed to surviving short term use and heading to landfill.
Faye is currently exploring colour though being as mindful with material as she can; cotton, recycled leather, cork, flock fibres made from synthetic waste.
Her practice is heavily driven by colour interaction, and using leather scraps serves as a great limitation as it pushes Faye to really test different colour combinations. Consequently she wouldn’t get the same enjoyment now from cherry picking the colours herself from new skins.
All items are hand cut before being embellished with brass or cotton yarn; she uses sustainable, long lasting materials in every piece that she makes.
We are delighted to showcase Faye’s gorgeous jewellery pieces as part of our Textile Exhibition FIBRE, Summer 2019. FIBRE has now launched and is proving to be a popular exhibition so do call and see it soon. You can follow Faye on Instagram.
