Katharine Yelland designs and hand-makes her collections of silver and gold jewellery from her home studio in the North Yorkshire countryside. She has been designing and making jewellery for about twenty five years and has always loved making things and being creative.

Katharine is inspired by her surroundings and enjoys being out and about walking in the beautiful countryside she lives in. Her love of plants definitely influences her work, and when designing she is mainly looking at shape and texture.

She makes many initial sketches which are then developed and refined before concentrating on the materials and construction of the piece and when she is completely happy the making begins.

Katharine uses traditional jewellery making skills and techniques. All her work is made by hand in her small studio. She feels passionate about the jewellery she makes and the utmost care and attention is taken at all stages of production.

She studied Art & Design and Graphic Design at college and upon completion saw a Jewellery & Silversmithing course advertised locally and signed up for it.

After her first piece was finished, she was hooked and couldn’t wait to get started on the next. Katherine soon realised that this could be the career for her.

Since then she was an apprentice to two highly respected contemporary jewellery designer/goldsmiths and also worked in two contemporary jewellery/craft galleries alongside designing, making and exhibiting her own jewellery collections.

It is so satisfying when people appreciate the designs and the time and effort that goes into creating these little pieces of wearable sculpture. Call in soon to see her new collection for us. We hope you get as much enjoyment wearing your piece as Katharine gets creating them. Katharine is not on social media but you can follow us on Instagram for more images and stories.
