Scottish born artist Jennie McCall started her artistic career after gaining her BA Hons degree in Graphic Design at Leeds Polytechnic in the 1980s.
Jennie is now based in the East Midlands and works from her rural retreat in the beautiful Welland Valley.
Her current work brings together years of professional practice as a sculptor and illustrator. Her award winning work evokes mystery and intrigue with masterful use of porcelain capturing it’s translucent and pure qualities exquisitely.
Influenced by a life long passion for foraging and collecting there is a reflective narrative in Jennie’s work, which is particularly evident in this collection.
Working primarily with porcelain Jennie often introduces other elements into her work such as wood, metal and stone. Using traditional Japanese wrapping techniques Jennie relishes the technical potential of manipulating materials to create exciting visual statements and elegant aesthetics.
Nest + Nurture is the latest collection from Jennie McCall and has been many years in the making. Inspired by myth & nature, The Nest + Nurture Collection is formed from two smaller collections; ‘Bone + Feather’ and ‘Ebb + Flow’ and more recently, a third collection; ‘The Hare Party’.
Ever evolving, these organically come together to exhibit striking and contemporary sculptures varying from dramatic stoneware and bronze animal skulls to eclectic collections of porcelain curiosities, miniature sea pots and tiny bones.
See Jennie’s work with us until April 22nd as part of our Spring Show, MERAKI. Follow her on Instagram x
